The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County invites you to join us for a series of programs and events during the Big Read. This year, we will be reading and studying Thornton Wilder’s iconic play Our Town. The month-long programming kicks off this Monday, September 30 at 6:30pm at the Alhambra Theatre.
The Museum is hosting a number of programs:
- Saturday, October 5, 6:30pm – A Walk to Remember
- Join the Museums for a stroll through downtown Hopkinsville. This walk starts at the Woody Winfree Fire-Transportation Museum and will focus on the local streetscape as it appeared in the early 20th Advance registration is required. Tickets: $10/person; $5/Museum Members
- October 11, 5:00pm – Supper in the Cemetery at Riverside Cemetery
- Tour the tombstones, enjoy a meal, and meet some of our community’s finest in our rendition of Act III. Advance registration is required. Tickets: $20/person; $15/Museum Members
- October 15, 6:00pm – Hoptown in the Time of Our Town at the Woody Winfree Firee-Transportation Museum
- What if Our Town was set in Hopkinsville instead of Grover’s Corner? Alissa Keller explores the events that shaped our town from 1901-1913 in this program.
- October 24, 6:30pm – History on Tap at the Hopkinsville Brewing Company
- Robert Martin dives deep into the history of a local landmark in “If Walls Could Talk.”
- October 28, 6:00pm – Trivia Night at Davo’s Burgers & Fries
- Test your knowledge of local history in this special “Hoptown Connection” edition of trivia night.
- October 31, 6:30pm – Haunted Hoptown Walking Tour
- Haunt the streets with us as we share some of Hoptown’s strangest, most bizarre, and darkest stories. From murder and mystery to tragedy and scandal – this tour is sure to put a spooky twist on Our Town. The tour will start at the Woody Winfree Fire-Transportation Museum. Advance registration is required. Tickets: $10/person; $5/Museum Members
- November 2, 10am-3:30pm – Arts & Heritage Day 2.0
- A downtown scavenger hunt, art project, and updates from arts and heritage groups. Open to anyone; Leadership Hopkinsville alumni are encouraged to attend. Contact the Museum for info and to register. Fee will be charged.
