“Quilting: A Legacy of Love”
Join the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County on Saturday, April 19 from 10:30am-1pm for “Quilting: A Legacy of Love,” a special presentation by Bobbie Smith Bryant. A talented freelance writer, Bryant focuses her research on regional specialties. The presentation will be hosted by the Kentucky Star Quilt Shop (S. Virginia & 9th streets) with a special reception and tour to follow at the Pennyroyal Area Museum. The reception will feature recipes from Bryant’s book Passions of the Black Patch: Cooking and Quilting in Western Kentucky (2012). The book combines more than 200 regional recipes with a tribute to the traditional art of quilting. Cost of the presentation, reception, and tour: $5.00.
The 25th Annual Quilt Show will be on display at the Pennyroyal Area Museum through April 26, 2014. This exhibit showcases more than 90 quilt masterpieces from area quilters and always proves to be one of the Museum’s most colorful and artistic displays each year. Kids have the opportunity to design and color their own Quilt Notecards, and our quilt frame is set up to offer all visitors the chance to try a hand at a few stitches.
Mark your calendars! The Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society’s 2013 Challenge Quilts will be on display at the Pennyroyal Area Museum May 1 through May 10. These small masterpieces all speak to the theme “Remember…a New Box of Crayons.” Come see how some of the state’s most talented and creative quilters interpreted this theme.
Western Kentucky abounds with quilts in the springtime! Check out ongoing events at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY, and visit the Homeplace at Land Between the Lakes on April 26-27 for their 8th Annual Quilt Show. Hop in your car to tour the region’s countryside and see quilt squares painted on barns along the Kentucky Barn Quilt Trail.
