Every April since 1989, the Pennyroyal Area Museum has been draped with quilted masterpieces. Join us this year from April 7 – 25, 2015 for our 26th Annual Quilt Show and experience the colors, shapes, textures, and love that make up these works of art. This exhibit showcases both old and new quilt masterpieces from area quilters and always proves to be one of the Museum’s most colorful and artistic displays each year.
Hands-on activities offer all visitors the opportunity to step up to the quilt frame and add a few stitches to a community quilt project. A quilt top purchased in an antique store in Hazel, Ky offers the perfect opportunity for beginners and pros to practice the rhythm and technique of quilting. Once it is completely quilted, the museum will put it on display. Get a few stitches into an exhibit while you can! We’ll also have note cards with different quilt patterns for kids to color and decorate.
For a special treat, join us on Saturday, April 11 from 10:30am-2pm for an old-fashioned Quilting Bee. Members of the Knot Just Quilters, a local quilting group, will be on site to demonstrate their skills and to chat about their art. Children are invited to join us for a special workshop from 1pm-2pm where they will learn how to “Sew up a Yo-Yo!” Yo-yos resemble flowers made out of fabric. Crafted out of scraps for decades, these little gems are traditionally sewn together to create coverlets, toys, and other decorative pieces. They are easy and fun to create, and their round shape will make an artistic addition to a hair accessory or pin.
Have a quilt you want to loan for display in the Quilt Show? Quilts will be accepted at the Pennyroyal Area Museum (217 E. 9th Street) from March 30 – April 4. Call (270) 887-4270 for more information.
