Model TrainsA Day with Trains

On Saturday, December 21 and Saturday, December 28, join us for  A Day with Trains at the Pennyroyal Area Museum. Watch as our conductors run five trains on two elaborate model train layouts. One layout features two trains that wind through the town of Little Progress, a utopian locale where Christmas is celebrated year-round. Be mesmerized by a second layout that is an exact reproduction of Lionel’s Christmas layout from 1955. With three trains, a trolley, and a number of other moving parts, this setup is fun for all ages! A craft table with simple, winter crafts will also be available for visitors. Regular museum admission rates apply.

Nativity ScenesHoliday Displays

Experience the true spirit of the season with the Pennyroyal Treasures exhibit that currently features a collection of nativity scenes from around the world. On loan from local collector Nancy Tankersley, these unique representations of the classic Christmas scene are made out of a variety of materials: pressed metal, crystal, wood, corn husks, bread dough, and more! Also on special display is Christmas and Winter Celebrations Around the World, an exhibit featuring international holiday traditions .

Holiday Hours

The Museums will be closed for the holidays from Tuesday, December 24 through Thursday, December 26. We will re-open with our regular hours on Friday, December 27, 2013. The Museums will be closed on New Year’s Day. The Museums remain closed to the public on Mondays.
