SUMMARY:FREE SUMMER ADMISSION for STUDENTS
DESCRIPTION:We’re partnering with Mayor J.R. Knight and the City of Hopkinsville to offer FREE SUMMER ADMISSION for all children and students from June 10 – August 31\, 2024! \n“This is a wonderful opportunity for our young people to learn about our rich local history and culture. I believe that by making the museum accessible for everyone\, we are investing in the future of our community. I encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity and explore and learn together\,” said Mayor Knight. \nOPEN ON MONDAYS\nThe Pennyroyal Area Museum will be open on Mondays throughout the summer\, too. That gives the community and visitors to our community an extra 11 days to explore the museum and to learn more about local history! Regular hours for the Pennyroyal Area Museum from June 10 through August 31 will be Monday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm. \nMUSEUM MONDAYS AT 10:30AM\nMondays will feature special programming each week at 10:30am at the Pennyroyal Area Museum\, too. Each Museum Monday program will allow student visitors to learn about the purpose of museums while discovering new and exciting details about our community through special presentations and activities like creating their own museum exhibits\, studying artifacts\, investigating historical events\, and more! \nNo registration is required for Museum Monday programs – and programs will all be FREE to students thanks to our partnership with Mayor Knight and the City of Hopkinsville.  \n  \nFor more information on these programs or anything else\, follow us on Facebook or give us a call at 270-887-4270.

SUMMARY:Voices of Hoptown: In Their Own Words
DESCRIPTION:Episode 2 of Museum Podcast Available\nThe Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County invites you to explore stories of Hopkinsville and Christian County by listening to our new podcast “Voices of Hoptown: In Their Own Words” podcast. This podcast utilizes existing oral history interviews in the museum’s collection and makes them more accessible for audiences.  \nThe Museum currently has approximately 75 oral history interviews from five different thematic collections. These interviews represent a broad range of local people and their experiences. Many of these recordings are available in a digital format; however\, their accessibility has been limited. Partnering with Salt.Light.Love\, we are making these interviews available in shorter\, more manageable episodes. The interviews remain largely unedited and provide valuable insights into the diversity of experiences that form the collective history of our community. \nListen to Episodes\nEpisodes of the “Voices” podcast will be released on Wednesdays and are available through Spotify. You can access the first episode featuring the first part of an interview with Gwenda Motley and Valerie Watkins HERE. The next episode will be released next Wednesday\, July 24. \nRecord Your History\nOral histories add to our historical record by providing personal stories about local history that may not be found in written sources. The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County currently partners with the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History in the University of Kentucky Libraries as we expand our oral history interview collections. If you are interested in recording your story\, please contact Alissa Keller at akeller@museumsofhopkinsville.org. \nFor more information\, give us a call at 270-887-4270.  \nThe Pennyroyal Area Museum is located at 217 East 9th Street and is open Monday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm.
