SUMMARY:"I Declare" Poetry Workshop with WKMS
DESCRIPTION:The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County are partnering with WKMS\, Murray State University’s NPR-affiliate radio station\, to host a poetry workshop inspired by the Declaration of Independence and its 250th anniversary. \nTo commemorate the Declaration’s signing\, participants will be encouraged to share their personal definitions of “Life\, Liberty\, and the pursuit of Happiness\,” highlighting their individual truths through the art of poetry. The workshop will begin with participants introducing themselves – using only six words — by completing the statement\, “I hold this truth to be self-evident…” \nLed by award-winning writer and Murray State alum Constance Alexander\, the poetry workshop will also feature at least two opportunities for free-writing\, based on prompts influenced by the spirit and prose of the Declaration of Independence and its relevance 250 years later. \nThe workshop’s culminating activity will be a group exercise that asks participants to share their personal declarations\, with the option of being recorded for a radio broadcast. A selection of these declarations will be aired regionally on 91.3 WKMS-FM. \nFrom WKMS: \n“Engaging participants with the Declaration of Independence during its 250th anniversary year\, the project deepens public understanding of the Declaration not as a historic artifact\, but as a framework that inspires individuals to examine their lives\, values\, and rights. By sharing original writings through WKMS broadcasts\, online platforms\, open mics\, and community events\, the project creates pathways to conversations about rights\, freedoms\, and responsibilities\, and fosters connections across generations and viewpoints.” \nSAMPLE DECLARATION: \nHear Ye Hear Ye Hear Ye\nI’m declaring my right to be\nRight or wrong good or bad\nTo fill my plate or leave\nThe room a mess or dance\nall night long alone naked or\nNot to share my secret life\nWith anyone or shout out loud\nEverywhere I declare all bonds dissolved\nMy mind my body my own\nMy patience ending with this poem\nBy: Susan Stalick

SUMMARY:April 2026 Supper Club
DESCRIPTION:The Supper Club: Inspiring Cultural & Culinary Conversations\, is an open group that explores the diversity of our community through food. The club is open to anyone who loves food\, conversation\, and learning about other cultures through commensality. Sharing conversations over a meal is a great way to bring people together to share their culture\, rituals\, and traditions. With compassion at heart\, our goal is to build belonging in a community that understands and promotes cross-cultural dialogue with our neighbors.  \nThe Supper Club’s next meeting of 2026 will be Thursday\, April 9 and will meet at the Pennyroyal Area Museum at 6pm. \nFormer chef Matthew Brown returns to prepare international dishes based on people who lived in Christian County in the 1930s. In 1934\, the Kentucky New Era ran a series of short biographies titled “Our Foreign Born Citizens.” The series featured 29 individuals representing 22 different cultures and who had immigrated from other countries. Museum Director Alissa Keller will share these stories while Brown prepares dishes inspired by these cultures. \nThey will share stories about a variety of dishes\, and guests will have the opportunity to taste and experience the cuisine. Guests will take home a recipe and any unique ingredients required to cook the dish at home. \nThe cost to attend this delicious program will be $10.00 per person or you can purchase a season pass to attend all 6 programs for $50.00. Dates for upcoming Supper Club gatherings will be June 11\, August 13\, October 8\, and December 10. All programs will be held at the Pennyroyal Area Museum at 6pm.

This month’s program welcomes back Dr. Paresh and Mona Sheth who will be cooking special recipes of Indian heritage. Dr. Sheth is a neurologist – now under the umbrella of the Jennie Stuart Health Provider Based Clinics – and Mona is actively involved in many aspects of the community. Both love to cook\, and they maintain a friendly banter over who is the better chef.\n\n\nThey will demonstrate traditional Indian dishes\, and guests will have the opportunity to taste and experience the cuisine\, as well as take home a recipe and any unique ingredients required to cook the dish at home.\n\n\nPlease note that the date has been changed and was previously scheduled for June 11. \n\n\nThe cost to attend this delicious program will be $10.00 per person. Dates for upcoming Supper Club gatherings will be August 13\, October 8\, and December 10\, 2026. All programs will be held at the Pennyroyal Area Museum at 6pm.\n\n\nTickets can be purchased at the Pennyroyal Area Museum or online in our Shopify store.\n\n\nThe Supper Club is designed to build community belonging. Sharing conversations over a meal is a great way to bring people together to share their culture\, rituals\, and traditions. With compassion at heart and a journey with history\, our goal is to build a community that understands and promotes cross-cultural dialogue with our neighbors.\n\n\nTo register for the Supper Club\, visit us online in our Shopify store or call us at 270-887-4270.
