Tombstone Cleaning

The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County is collaborating with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library for a morning of tombstone cleaning Saturday, June 27 from 9:30 – 11:30am, as part of the library’s Summer Reading Program.
Children (and adults) ages 13 and over are invited to help preserve local history by cleaning and restoring old tombstones at Pioneer Cemetery.
Located at 301 W. 13th Street, this 200-year-old cemetery is the final resting place for Christian County’s earliest settlers, including Hopkinsville’s founder Bartholomew Wood.
Folks will receive a brief training on respectful cemetery etiquette and on how to document and clean historic tombstones safely before grabbing a bucket and brush. Learn more about Hopkinsville’s history while making our community a brighter place!
This program is free to attend, and the Museum will provide all supplies. We encourage folks to bring water and wear real shoes (not sandals), long pants, and bug spray.
