September 25 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Free
The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County invites you to our next History on Tap on Thursday, September 25 at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company for “bell hooks’s Hopkinsville”as we celebrate the iconic writer and feminist on her birthday.
Born Gloria Jean Watkins in Hopkinsville and writing under the pen name bell hooks, this remarkable woman published 40 books in her lifetime. Her memoir Bone Black: Memories of Girlhood explores her life growing up in Hopkinsville in the 1950s and ‘60s. The collection of short stories brings the community to life through the eyes and remembrances of one of the most respected feminists of our time.
Gwenda Motley, bell’s sister, and Alissa Keller, Executive Director of the Museums, will explore the stories in Bone Black and illuminate the real people, places, and events that inspired the memoir. The program will also celebrate bell’s birthday – which means that there will be cake!
History on Tap is a free series that seeks to share local history in a relaxed, fun setting. Programs are typically held on the last Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company.
