History on Tap: Opening Night at The Rex
October 23 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Free
The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County invites you to our next History on Tap on Thursday, October 23 at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company for “Opening Night at The Rex,” an exploration of one of Hopkinsville’s oldest movie theaters.
Grace Abernethy, local preservationist and historian, explores the story behind the opening of Hopkinsville’s second movie theater in 1912. Located on 9th Street between Main and Virginia streets, the theater operated under the name “The Rex” until 1929. It reopened as The Kentucky Theater in 1937 and closed in 1956. Most recently, the building housed Blue Streak Printers and stands as the last remaining structure on its block.
History on Tap is a free series that seeks to share local history in a relaxed, fun setting. Programs are typically held on the last Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company.
