History on Tap: The Kentucky Civil Rights Act, 60 Years Later
The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County invites you to our first History on Tap of 2026 on Thursday, January 29 at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company for “The Kentucky Civil Rights Act: 60 Years Later,” an exploration of the passage of the first Civil Rights legislation in a Southern state.
On January 27, 1966, Governor Edward T. Breathitt, a Hopkinsville native, signed the Kentucky Civil Rights Act into law. This act increased protections provided by the national Civil Rights Act of 1964 by prohibiting discrimination in public accommodations or employment based on race, national origin, color, or religion. Join the Museum with special guest Linda Breathitt to discuss the legislation and its impact on the state and the governor who made it happen.
History on Tap is a free series that seeks to share local history in a relaxed, fun setting. Programs are typically held on the last Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company.
