Voices of Hoptown: In Their Own Words
July 17
Museum Introduces Podcast
The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County invites you to explore stories of Hopkinsville and Christian County by listening to our new podcast “Voices of Hoptown: In Their Own Words” podcast. This podcast utilizes existing oral history interviews in the museum’s collection and makes them more accessible for audiences.
The Museum currently has approximately 75 oral history interviews from five different thematic collections. These interviews represent a broad range of local people and their experiences. Many of these recordings are available in a digital format; however, their accessibility has been limited. Partnering with Salt.Light.Love, we are making these interviews available in shorter, more manageable episodes. The interviews remain largely unedited and provide valuable insights into the diversity of experiences that form the collective history of our community.
Listen to Episodes
Episodes of the “Voices” podcast will be released on Wednesdays and are available through Spotify. You can access the first episode featuring the first part of an interview with Gwenda Motley and Valerie Watkins HERE. The next episode will be released next Wednesday, July 24.
Record Your History
Oral histories add to our historical record by providing personal stories about local history that may not be found in written sources. The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County currently partners with the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History in the University of Kentucky Libraries as we expand our oral history interview collections. If you are interested in recording your story, please contact Alissa Keller at akeller@museumsofhopkinsville.org.
