History on Tap: The Legend of Asbury Harpending. Photograph of Asbury Harpending and cover of book titled "The Great Diamond Hoax" announces History on Tap on April 25 at 6:30pm

April’s History on Tap is digging into the legend of Asbury Harpending, one of the most fascinating men ever to call Christian County home.

Harpending was born in Hopkinsville in 1839 and set out to live a life of adventure, intrigue, scandal, and vast wealth. From mines in Mexico to real estate in San Francisco, Asbury Harpending accumulated a large fortune – alongside a good deal of controversy. Join Museum Director Alissa Keller as she weaves this tale of treason, prison, diamonds, and extravagance and its connection to western Kentucky.

History on Tap is a free series that seeks to share local history in a relaxed, fun setting. Programs are typically held on the last Thursday of the month at 6:30pm at Hopkinsville Brewing Company.
